WELLINGTON, FL - February 28, 2001 - 1998 AGA Rider of the Year McLain Ward of Brewster, NY was in the winner's circle once more, this time aboard the chestnut gelding, 4 Seasons in the $5,000 AmeriChoice Open Speed Stake at Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington on Wednesday. Ward, 26, and 4 Seasons blistered the 11-obstacle course, designed by

Olaf Petersen of Germany, with the fastest time of 64.003 seconds, followed closely by Donald Cheska of Waukesha, WI up on the 11 year old Swiss bred brown gelding, Santos with a time of 65.610 seconds. "This is only Santos' 3rd class," said Cheska, who will be competing in Sunday's $75,000 Tommy Bahama Florida Open Grand Prix. "He did really well in the ring, and he was fast, but McLain (Ward) was quicker." Third place honors went to Wellington's own Margie Engle, five-time AGA Rider of the Year, on board Hidden Creek's Alvaretto with a time of 66.881 seconds. The Tommy Bahama Open continues through Sunday at Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club, with show jumping action daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
