BETA

BETA Lifetime Achievement Award

ON the third day of BETA International the BETA Lifetime Achievement Award was presented posthumously to Nick Ward and accepted by his wife Lucy.

Nick was highly regarded in the industry, as the mastermind behind Horsemasters Distribution.

Presenting the award his long time fried Phil Duff said: "On behalf of BETA there has been no consideration necessary to present this accolade of recognition posthumously to Nick Ward.

"Nick who sat for many years on the BETA Council was also a prominent figure in establishing the BETA International Trade Fair into the major international show that we have today.

"He was responsible for many successes in the equestrian trade including the development and growth of the famous Hydrophane brand.

"He set a national stable footwear trend when he had the foresight to import the Mucker Stable Boot and more recently he found more energy and enthusiasm to apply his selling and marketing skills to launch Horsemasters, to handle the distribution of the Mountain Horse range.

"So many in the industry will remember that it was typical of Nick's nature that he would take the trouble to say hello and talk to us newcomers.

"Mostly, however Nick will be remembered for his generosity and support, he was always willing to share his market knowledge and his skill, even with competitors. He just wanted everyone to succeed.

"At the inaugural launch of this prestigious award there can be no better lifetime to be celebrated than his."

Receiving the award Lucy said: "I wish Nick was here to receive the award. Up there he will be hoping everyone has a good show.

"I am very proud of him and everything he achieved. Our son Alexander is running in the London Marathon to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation and we are hoping to reach £15,000."

Anyone wishing to sponsor Alexander should contact Lucy Ward C/O Horsemasters.
