Crab Orchard, Brigadoon Register Wins In Hall Of Fame
Polo Tuesday At International Polo Club Palm Beach

WELLINGTON, Florida – Eight-goaler Lucas Monteverde scored on a 10-yard forehand with 1:35 remaining to lift ERG over Crab Orchard 11-10 in a 22-goal Hall of Fame Cup polo match Tuesday at International Polo Club Palm Beach. Both teams advance to this weekend’s quarterfinals with identical 2-1 records.

In other Hall of Fame Cup action, 10-goaler Adam Snow scored four of his team-high five goals in the fourth chukker to lead Brigadoon over Lechuza 8-5.

Crab Orchard’s Memo Gracida scored two goals in 32 seconds, the second on a 60-yard penalty shot, to tie the game at 10-10 with 2:40 left in the game. On the ensuing throw-in, Monteverde picked up a loose ball near midfield, dribbling to goal with Julio Gracida unsuccessfully trying to steal the ball.

Roberto Gonzalez led ERG with five goals, all in the first half while Pablo Spinacci added four goals. Monteverde finished with two goals, both in the final chukker while patron Scott Wood did not score.

Memo Gracida led Crab Orchard with six goals while his 16-year-old son, Julio, added one goal. Crab Orchard received three goals on handicap to begin the game. Gigi Aguero, who replaced Pablo MacDonough, and patron George Rawlings did not score. MacDonough suffered a hairline fracture of his left ankle on Saturday and is expected to miss at least another week.

Tiger Kneece added two goals for Brigadoon (1-2) while Brian Prichard scored one goal. Will Johnston, who subbed for patron Christine Cato, who has a knee injury, did not score.

Sebastian Merlos and patron Victor Vargas scored two goals each for Lechuza (1-2) while substitute Brad Blake added one goal. Blake filled in for Gaston Urturi in the fourth chukker. Tommy Biddle did not score.

Seventeen teams entered the tournament. The Hall of Fame Cup final is Sunday, February 29 at 3 p.m. at the International Polo Club Palm Beach stadium.
