20th April 2001 Statement given by Mark Wein, Director, Grandstand Media Ltd regarding the Horse of the Year Show and the FMD Crisis
“Following the BSJA’s recent statement that Show Jumping is due to recommence shortly and with over 90% of the Horse of the Year Show Showing Qualifiers being held from June onwards, we are confident that the impact of the current FMD crisis will have a minimal effect on this year’s Show and that competitors will have ample opportunity to enter qualifiers for the 2001 Show. This is further helped by several qualifying shows postponing their dates until later in the season with a small number having changed venues altogether. The HOYS show office is working extremely hard to reallocate qualifiers from those shows who have unfortunately had to cancel

German Grand Prix Rider Teaches at Pine Lodge
German Grand Prix rider Uta Pulvamacher has just completed a three day working holiday teaching at Pine Lodge School of Classical Equitation. The school provided a wide range of standards for her to teach, from the UEA college team to Pine Lodge owner Sue Barber and her international dressage prospect, Infinito.
Uta
With the more advanced riders, Uta’s keen observation meant she quickly spotted problems like slightly incorrect weight distribution that prevented the horses from performing correctly. Her calm manner meant she could communicate the solution quickly and so enable the riders to improve the horse’s way of going. She was also able to make great improvements to the less experienced riders.

The old saying "No Foot, No Horse" is one horse people like to recite all the time. What constitutes a healthy foot? As equine experts, you will have to be familiar with and responsible for the "Life-Line" of your horse - his feet.
A Healthy Foot:
Includes hard, solid soles and soft, flexible frog bands with a triangular center. The outer hoof wall should be at least two times greater than the width of the white line, and the white line should bond with no deep cracks between the connecting sole.

Meredith Manor Training Mythunderstandings -
Psychological Pressures and the Learning Zone

When we're training a horse, we use both physical and psychological pressures to shape the horse's behavior.
. Every training activity needs to be structured in such as way that the horse himself removes the pressure when he provides the correct response. He must feel the pressure as a solvable problem, as something that goes away when he takes a certain shape.
When the horse is aware of the pressures but remains relaxed and breathing rhythmically, the horse is in a learning zone. You want to keep him in that zone all the way through anything you're teaching him, regardless of how energetic the activity is, regardless of how complex it is or how often you want to change the activity. If you can keep the horse in that learning zone through the whole training process, then what you'll wind up with is a super performance horse.
