Half-Arabian Stallions Allowed to Show in Sport Horse In-Hand Classes

USA Equestrian approved a rule that allows Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian colts and stallions to compete in sport horse in-hand classes. This is in addition to a previous ruling that allows Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian colts/stallions to compete in performance classes and weanling and yearling breeding/halter classes for colts.

As a result, the Arabian Horse Association (AHA) has included Half-Arabian stallions in two in-hand classes at the upcoming 2003 Sport Horse Nationals:

Class 485 Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian Sport Horse Stallions In-Hand Championship
Class 489 Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian Sport Horse Stallions In-Hand Amateur to Handle (ATH) Championship

The 2003 Sport Horse Nationals will be held at the Virginia Horse Park in Lexington, Virginia, on September 17-21. In 2004, the show will be held on September 15-19 at the Murieta Equine Complex in Rancho Murieta just 20 miles from Sacramento, California.

For the 2003 show, qualifications will be waived for sport horses, hunters and jumpers, so that horses currently showing in open circuits can participate. Dressage horses will be required to have Nationals qualifications. All horses need to be Arabians, Half-Arabians or Anglo-Arabians registered with AHA or the Canadian Arabian Horse Registry but do not need to be inspected or approved by any particular sport horse registry. Both rider and owner need to be AHA members.

AHA is a 40,000 member equine association that registers and maintains a database of more then one million Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses. It administers more than $4 million in annual prize money, produces national events, maintains official event records, recognizes more than 400 Arabian horse shows and distance rides and provides activities and programs that promote breeding and ownership.
