British Reining Team takes on the World.

The British Reining Team has qualified for the International Finals at the World Equestrian Games in Spain during September 2002.

The Team, pictured below, travelled to Reggio Emillio in Italy for the European Qualifying round at the end of May, and was placed fourth overall, against an incredibly strong field of 12 European countries and nearly 50 riders. Five qualifying places were available in Italy for European Teams, so Great Britain's fourth place has qualified them for Spain and they will travel to Jharez La Frontierra in the Autumn to take on the other eight qualified nations from the rest of the world. This years World Equestrian Games are the first at which Reining will be a full medal discipline.

Reining is a fast and exciting sport, involving spins and slides on horseback which are spectacular and breathtaking to watch. The partnership between horse and rider has to be perfection to achieve the accuracy demanded during the reining patterns, and this growing sport is deservedly on track to, hopefully, become an Olympic discipline in the near future.

Team members, Doug Allen, who is one of Europe’s most highly respected AQHA and NRHA judges, and sisters Rosanne and Francesca Sternberg are all based at the Sterling Quarter Horse Ranch at Bodiam in East Sussex. Doug, Rosanne, six time European Amateur Reining Champion and Francesca, who gained an individual seventh place in Italy, were joined by Lauren Jolly, who replaced the side lined Bob Mayhew, for the Italian Qualifiers.

The Team, who are understandably overjoyed at their achievement in qualifying , against all odds, for the World Games are now working hard towards the September finals and looking forward to taking on the best in the world, including the Americans at their own game, and will no doubt give them all a run for their money.
