Ireland Gets Ready For Nations Cup Battle

IN ADVANCE OF THIS AFTERNOON¹S historic Nations Cup competition, Army riders have once again shown their dominance in the Falsterbo, Sweden, show jumping arena.

Lt. Shane Carey won this morning¹s (Friday) second Derby Qualifier on <Killossery>, with Ireland¹s Cian O¹Connor Fourth on <ABC Landliebe>.

Carey was second with <Killossery> in the first Derby Qualifier yesterday (Thursday), while his team-mate Lt. David O¹Brien won the Grand Prix Qualifier on the same day, riding <Boherdeal Clover>.

The Irish-bred Killossery has had a remarkable year, with wins in 2002 at Monaco, Spangenberg, Poznan and Linz.

This afternoon¹s Nations Cup team at Falsterbo will jump as follows
Denis Coakley
Lt. Shane Carey
Cian O¹Connor
Robert Splaine

In Lummen, Belgium, meanwhile, the second Irish Nations Cup team of Captain Gerry Flynn, Edward Doyle ,Darragh Kearins and Shane Breen will also compete
today (Friday).

If both the Falsterbo and Lummen teams win, it will be the third year in a row that Ireland has won both Nations Cups on the same day at these venues. Results should be complete before 6 p.m.
