An autumnal day, November, that for the Lydia Tesio race, and consequently a sloppy ground that turned out very well for the British mare Claxon. She in fact, ran as a leader from a furlong after the start, came upward along the straight, making the running, imposing the tactical development of the race and having still resources for breaking away of three lengths.

On the inside the German Ustimova took up the 2nd place; she preceded just for half a length the fellow country filly Abitara, not good-looking in the saddling ring, who advanced instead on the outside, on the eastern fence, late pushed forward by his jockey. The two colour-bearers of German owners came before Masaniella just for a little, who possibly lost a better setting, leading the pursuit to the leader Claxon. In other words Masaniella, running for victory, lost a better place.

However it’s now definitely clear that she is not only a brilliant and precocious 2 y.o., able of adding now to the 2nd place in the spring Premio Alberto Zanoletti, listed (Milan – San Siro, April, 16) this group 2 place, that should help her for a better result as a mare.

Claxon, winning the Premio Lydia Tesio, has, as they say, revenged the mother, Bulaxie, who in this same race arrived 2nd in 1994, defeated by Alpride. With this success, strongly wanted (to saddle the winner was in attendance the trainer J. Dunlop), Claxon captured the right to style herself with capital black type, as well as his mother, Bulaxie. The latter won Gainsborough Stud – Fred Darling Stakes, Gr. 3, and is already mother of Zimbalabim, champion 3 y.o. in Slovak Republic in 1993, but also winner in France (Prix de la Butte Mortemarte, listed, at Longchamp, 3rd in the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud, Gr.1, Saint Cloud, and in the Prix Maurice de Nieuil, Gr. 2 at Maisons-Laffitte) and in Italy (Premio Città di Grosseto, listed, at Grosseto).

Claxon father, Caerleon, died on February 2, 1998 (and so Claxon belongs to the last but one breeding year of the sire), has a very good fame; he is considered one of the best branch of the sire line Northern Dancer – Nijinsky, especially as females father (to the group-winners Caerlina, Only Royale, Auriette, Shake the Yoke, Lady Carla, etc., he adds in the year 2000, before Claxon, Gold Round, winner of the Prix Cleopatre, Gr. 3, metres 2.100, at Saint Cloud, May, 12).

He was selected for bringing in the mate further stamina (and this with a Bustino filly !!) because Bulaxie was unable to stay at twelve furlongs, and in this Claxon too was unsuccessful, at the high level, because she was only 5th in the Epsom Oaks.

Pointed out that the female line of Claxon is from already eighty years or so in the USA, with good enough results, it remains to wish Hesmonds Stud to achieve what she and her mother didn’t already manage: at least a place in the Oaks.
