National Business Awards

Blue Chip came a highly creditable second in their section of the National Business Awards, missing out on the top spot by just one mark in the final judging. Though frustrated to have come so tantalisingly close to victory, Blue Chip's achievement was put into perspective by the fact that the winning company for their category of Supply Chain Strategy of the Year, has a logistical business spanning 2 continents with a £1bn turnover, government contracts and 34 depots. Blue Chip also fought off competition from the likes of British Airports Authority which runs 7 airports with a turnover of £2bn.

This inaugural award ceremony, sponsored by Orange and held at the London Hilton on 29 October, was a glittering affair described by Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown as "the Oscars of the business world" in his opening video address.

The list of finalists further confirmed Blue Chip's achievement; the roll call for each section reading like a 'Who's Who' of big business with British Telecom, BP, Marks & Spencer, The AA, IBM, HSBC, Dixons and many more household names included. Among those honoured was Sir John Harvey-Jones, who was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his distinguished career.
