horse Robinsons Prince Philip Cup Mounted Games

In the fifth round of The Robinsons’ Prince Philip Cup, which is being held at The Horse of the Year Show at Birmingham, Oakley West and Clydach and District were in joint first place on points each. In third place was Eglinton and Crickhowell and District fourth.

Riding for the Oakley team were: Charlotte Castle (14) from Market Rasen riding Vimto, Holly Howson (14) from Long Buckby (Nipper), Lauren Poole (14) from Wooton (Beds) (Poppy), Melissa Bell (14) from Nash, (Lucy), Adam Frost (13) from Wooton (N ‘hants) (Mandy) and reserve rider Jessica Cox (9). The Oakley West trainer is Maureen Thomas from Wooten End.

The Crickhowell team:

Sally Griffiths (15) from Crickhowell (Dorian), sisters Sophie (14) and Aimee Richards (12) from Abergavenny (Jimmy and Lucky), and the second pair of sisters Katy (15) and Holly (12) Rauch from Newport riding Monty and Millie and Bethan Gold from Crickhowell riding Jimmy. The trainer is Iain Hopkins form Coed Morgan, Llanarth.

With just one round to go before the final on Sunday evening when only the top four teams compete the competition is so close that it will need Sunday afternoons session will decide.

The point’s table to date is: -

Crickhowell and District 71 (completed their four rounds)

Clydach and District 64 (completed their four rounds)

Oakley West 61 (after three rounds)

Wylye Valley 61 (after three rounds)

South Trent 48 (after three rounds)

Eglinton 43 (after three rounds)

The seventh and final round of this prestigious competition takes place on Sunday evening when Jim Bentham, Managing Director of Robinsons, the leading equestrian mail order company, will present The Prince Philip Cup to the victors. The Prince Philip Cup competition is the highlight of The Pony Club Mounted Games year. The children have displayed amazing skill, agility and dexterity as they have played through a varied selection of games including: the sword race, sharp shooters, old sock, Robinsons hurdles and a new game devised specially for The Horse of the Year Show, the Robinsons’ Mail Order game.
