USA Equestrian
National Hunter Jumper Council Zone Teams
Capital Challenge Horse Show

Prix Des Zones Hunter Teams

For the first time, teams of hunters are representing their zones in the National Hunter/Jumper Council's Prix des Zones at the Capital Challenge Horse Show. Teams consist of one professional rider, one junior or pony rider, and one amateur owner or adult amateur rider. Scores from the first two jumping classes of each rider's respective section count toward the team score. Teams are allowed to drop one score.

Supporting the popularity of this unique idea, sixteen Prix des Zones hunter teams are competing for the beautifully-embroidered NHJC letterman jackets. Zones 2, 4 and 7 each have one team competing, Zones 1 and 5 are both represented by two teams, four teams come from Zone 3, and Zone 10 is fielding five teams. There is no entry fee for the competition.

The top three teams in the Zone standings after the professionals' scores were recorded are as follows:

Zone 5 - B Strapless / Emily Williams 92.75 90.50 183.25
Zone 7 - A Bohemia / Peter Pletcher 89.00 91.00 180.00
Zone 3 - C Marvin / Sandy Ferrell 90.00 89.25 179.25

Throughout the week, scores from juniors, amateurs, children's, and ponies will be added to these scores to determine the winning team.

The National Hunter Jumper Council also awarded coolers to the following Champions:

Division Horse / Rider / Owner

1st Year Green A Marvin / Sandy Ferrell / Mrs. Gary B. Peterson
1st Year Green B Dream Date / Louise Serio / Rachel Geiger
2nd Year Green Red Panda / Louise Serio / Meralex Farm, Inc.
Regular Working Estrella / Sandy Ferrell / Mr. & Mrs. Ernest M. Oare
Green Conformation Chopard / Scott Stewart / Mimi Tashjian

The Council presented silver belt buckles to the winners of the inaugural NHJC Medal classes, and also to their trainers. Randy Sherman of Zone 10 won the Junior Medal. He is coached by Susie Schroer. Valerie German from Zone 2, trained by Nancy Fletcher, won the Amateur Medal.

A silver belt buckle was also awarded to Scott Stewart, who rode Chopard to the Grand Hunter Championship. Chopard is owned by Mimi Tashjian of Greenwich, CT.

Junior, amateur and jumper exhibitors will show throughout the weekend at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, MD. For further information contact info@nhjc.org or visit www.capitalchallengehorseshow.com
