Equitana Asia Pacific

Equitana Asia Pacific 2001

The magic returned to Melbourne, attracting over 75,000 people to the
8 day equine spectacular.

From across the country and around the world, over 75,000 people visited the
second EQUITANA Asia Pacific, the largest non-racing equine event in the
Southern Hemisphere. This represents an 8% increase in attendances from the
first EQUITANA Asia Pacific in 1999.

Event Director, Daryl Herbert said, "We are absolutely thrilled with the
feedback from exhibitors, competitors, educators and visitors. All agree
that EQUITANA Asia Pacific 2001 exceeded their expectations in all areas. We
feel confident that the EQUITANA brand has established itself as the key
event on the equine calendar in Australia."

Nearly 25,000 people witnessed the excitement of the all new Mane Event -
Dancing With Horses. The two-hour equine theatrical spectacular featured
Australian and international acts performing together to produce a thrilling
evening of entertainment for the whole family. The Mane Event was presented
in the specially created 6,000 seat indoor arena, and featured over 50
horses and riders, including 2001 Olympic Dressage Gold Medallist ANKY VAN
GRUNSVEN, Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony Rearing Stockman STEVE JEFFERYS
and Australian country music legend LEE KERNAGHAN.

The Australian equine community flocked to the transformed Melbourne
Exhibition Centre to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from and
meet, Australian and international experts in a variety of equine fields.
Olympic Gold Medallists were also on hand to share their secrets for

A 50% increase in exhibition space (over 180 exhibitors), compared to
EQUITANA 1999, created a complete equine shopping frenzy, with exhibitors
reporting a significant increase in sales.

The competition program was a great success, and featured the largest
Australian gathering of equine sports, showcasing Australian and
international riders competing for $250,000 in cash and prizes across 17
different competitions with over 800 competitors overall.

"EQUITANA Asia Pacific has at last bought together the Australia equine
industry, providing a unique and exciting opportunity for all facets of the
industry to benefit from the success of an event of this kind" concludes
Daryl Herbert.
