THE CASPIAN ARABIAN REGISTRY The CASPIAN ARABIAN is a "new breed" of pony "designed" lo suit the needs of the older, more ambitious child preparing lo move onto horses, and the small adult who may not wish to ride a big horse but requires an active, intelligent and handsome mount. The CASPIAN ARABIAN inherits a calm, sensible and willing nature and is easily handled by any sympathetic person, even total novices and small children. They are extremely quick to learn and easily broken and schooled. They enjoy a challenge and excel in Competition where jumping ability, speed, agility and stamina are at a premium. They also have the paces, looks and temperament to make top class Show and Dressage ponies. Despite their size and slender build the CASPIAN ARABIAN is well up to weight and "rides like a 16.2hh horse" with great endurance and stamina. Partbreds with a splash of Native blood are the ideal type for Working and Show Hunter Pony classes. Whilst Purebreds should make Top Quality Show and Competition Ponies, for all spheres from Jumping to Racing and Harness work. BREED STANDARD. The CASPIAN ARABIAN should have the appearance of a Miniature Arabian, with width and substance in proportion to its size. Bearing in mind that the breed is designed specifically for children, ponies may be narrower in the barrel than traditional breeds. However despite this narrowness, there must be suitable width at the chest to allow free movement of the forelimbs. There are no limits on height and at present most ponies are approx 13.2hh. In the future it is hoped that Purebreds will mature between 13hh and 14.2hh, with Panbreds from 12.2hh to 15hh. Paces should be long, free and flowing with no signs of an "up and down Cob-Type action". The Caspian ARABIAN is capable of out-running breeds of similar size, and does so without effort, making them ideal for Pony Racing. The outlook should be alert and kind with no hint of mean-ness. The whole picture should indicate a quality pony of athletic build, with extreme good looks, and which is easily handled and has a loving disposition. The CASPIAN ARABIAN is a working pony and must be viewed as such. The breed should be shown in "Working Condition" and a slight tendency towards lean-ness will be acceptable provided the animal is properly muscled and not under-fed. Ponies may be shown with mane free-flowing, pulled, plaited, hogged or in a crest plait. Tails may be natural, pulled or plaited. For In-Hand classes bridles may be of traditional English, "Arabian" or Eastern style, but care should be taken not to appear in "Fancy Dress" and tassels which obscure the features are to be frowned upon. ORIGINS. The first CASPIAN ARABIAN was foaled in 1986, by 12.1hh Caspian HOPSTONE MUSTAPHA x 14.1hh Arabian GAILA. Both parents were Show Champions and well proven in Competition. It has since been the policy of THE CASPIAN ARABIAN REGISTRY to promote the use of Show and Competition animals as breeding stock. DARKHORSE DORIAN has matured at 13.3 %hh. He is said to be one of the most popular Partbred Arab stallions in Britain, covering approximately fifteen mares every year. A Championship winner himself, he is siring outstanding ponies who themselves are winning Championships In-Hand and going on to prove themselves Under Saddle. His stock is in great demand with foals due to be born in years to come, already reserved. DORIAN is an enthusiastic Showjumper, presently winning and placed in Pre-Novice and Novice classes with a variety of young riders. He also enjoys Cross Country, unofficial Pony Racing and Gymkhana Games. At his first Gymkhana he won ALL THREE divisions of the Handy Horse and Pony Class (Pre-Novice, Novice and Open), was well placed in the Showjumping (Pre-Novice with a leadrein rider, Novice and Open) and won or placed in all of his Gymkhana Games - his rider won the Reserve Championship for accumulated Points, proving beyond doubt that DARKHORSE DORIAN is truly an all-round family pony. The CASPIAN ARABIAN REGISTRY. Most CASPIAN ARABIANS are registered both with the Caspian Pony Society and Arab Horse Society and now have their own Registry with sections for "Purebreds" and "Partbreds". To be registered as "Purebred CASPIAN ARABIAN" a pony must be of predominantly Caspian and Arabian bloodlines, with a minimum of 12.5% of either. Foreign blood of 12.5% or less will be allowed provided the animal displays predominantly Caspian and Arabian characteristics. To be registered as a "Partbred CASPIAN ARABIAN" a pony may have up to 50% Foreign blood. The remainder being a combination of only Caspian and Arabian bloodlines, with a minimum of 12.5% of either. Pure and Partbred CASPIAN ARABIAN ponies will be accepted into the registry before they reach 6 months of age and will be branded before they reach 24 months of age. The brand will be placed upon the quarters at both sides. No unbranded pony over 24 months of age may be called either "Purebred" or "Partbred" CASPIAN ARABIAN - The presence of a Brand will be a guarantee of authenticity whilst the Registration Card will provide details of breeding. Registration applications for foals will be presented to mare owners at the time of service, provided all stud and keep fees have been paid. No duplicates are allowed and a return must be made for each mare whether she foals or not. Registration Fees include the cost of branding. Stock may be branded at any time after 6 months of age. Branding sessions will be held at intervals and owners must ensure that Registration cards are produced on the day for verification and completion. ALL ponies MUST be branded before 24 months of age otherwise their Registration will lapse and they may not be called "A REGISTERED CASPIAN ARABIAN". All ponies accepted into the Registry must be by a stallion who holds either a recognised Breed Society licence or has a veterinary certificate and has been accepted as "an Approved Caspian Arabian Foundation Stallion".
