A Pharmacy at your fingertips.

Essential oils contain healing ingredients that can help in a wide range of everyday situations and anyone can learn how to use them in a way that is both safe, effective and highly satisfying. By keeping a selection of essential oils at the stable you can call on nature's healing powers for everyday bumps and bruises, your mare's mood swings, tired muscles, uwninding mentally and physically after any stressful situation and many many more things beside. Here are few oils that have a wide range of uses and which I use a lot with animals.

Carrot seed (Daucus Carota) Great for coats and hooves, any horse that has ever been malnourished, liver damage, slow healing wounds.

Lavender(Lavandula angustifolium) Anti inflammatory, , anti hematoma so useful for bruises and strains, calming, supports immune system, stops proud flesh forming.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) Any past trauma - physical or emotional, wounds, allergies, kidney infections.

Helichrysum (helichrysum italicum). Anti hematoma, broken capillaries
therefore useful in any impact wound and unlike arnica can be used on broken skin. Also good for deep/long running emotional wounds, stress and nervouse exhaustion.

Juniperberry (juniperis communis) Breaks down uric acid so is useful for mucsle recovery after hard work or injury. Clears the mind after being exposed to crowds. Very useful for arthritis.

Tea tree (melaleuca alternifolia) The first choice for cleansing wounds. It is also a very strong immune stimulant. Useful for thrush and other
fungal/bacterial infections.

Peppermint (mentha piperita) Clears the airways, settles griping pains in the stomach, stimulates recovery for sprains and strains due to its hot and cold action.

There are so many oils (I use 35 on a regular basis and have over 50 to call upon) that this just skims the surface. I also use a range of herbal base oils to increase the healing possibilities even further. On my courses we cover all these things plus how to use kinesiology as an aid to choosing the correct oils so you can go on and use this knowledge to better care for your companions.
