horse Show Jumping - Hanley Succeeds Hurley As SJAI Chairman

The first Executive Meeting of the Showjumping Association for 2003 took place at the Irish Farm Centre yesterday evening (Tuesday 28th). Election of Officers was the main item on the Agenda. Mayoman Charles Hanley succeeded Tony Hurley as Chairman and Dr. Ernie Logan, Northern Region, is Vice Chairman. Both were unanimously agreed. The Chairpersons of the various sub-committees are as follows:

International Affairs: Peter Leonard (Munster) – This committee will be in place until 2004 – up to and including the Olympics

Junior & Young Riders: Paul Duffy (Connaught)
Ponies: Maureen Bagnell (Leinster)
Amateurs: Janet Currie (Northern)
National Competitions: Eamon Rice (Northern)
Judges: Norman Wheeler (Munster)
Course Builders: Tommy Gibbons (Connaught)
Training: John Hannan (Munster)

The meeting decided that there should be two working groups put in place – one to concentrate on the Sporting Aspect of the Association and the other to deal with the Management and Financial side of the business. The working group with specific interest in the Sporting side consists of the Chairpersons of the various sub-committees and the Management and Finance Group will be made up of eight people – two from each region of which one must be from Executive. Charles Hanley will be Chairman of both groups. It is expected that each group will meet in the near future and report back to the full Executive Committee at their next meeting in approximately one month's time. The accommodation situation and appointment of a Chief Executive will also be high on the agenda for their next meeting.
