Top Officials To Judge Garden State Horse Show

Augusta, NJ—February 11, 2002—The Garden State Horse Show, presented by the Junior Essex Troop, Inc., has announced an impressive lineup of officials for this year’s show, May 1-5 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, NJ.

Exhibitors should be pleased with this year’s team of judges, hand-picked by the show committee. Some of the nation’s top names are listed below, underscoring the management’s commitment to creating one of the finest hunter-jumper shows in the country.

“We are offering our competitors some of the finest officials in the United States because that is what they expect from a horse show of our caliber,” said George Uniss, Co-Chairman of the Garden State Horse Show.

Judging the jumper divisions will be Ralph A. Alfano III of Lebanon, PA, and Show Jumping Hall of Famer official Dr. Robert C. Rost of Branchville, NJ. Rost has been associated with the Garden State Horse Show as a board member and official for many years. He received the American Horse Shows Association’s Devereaux Award for exemplary service to the horse show industry in 1989 and was inducted into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame in 1994.

Thomas Brede of Orefield, PA, will be judging hunters and equitation. Also judging the hunter and equitation divisions will be Ellen Shevella of Keswick, VA; Nancy Ashway Faulkner of St. Michaels, MD; and Donna Martin of Pottersville, NJ.

Beverely A. Bedard of Camp Hill, PA, and Jackie Martin of Centerport, NY, will preside as stewards for the show. John E. Franzreb III of Staten Island, NY will serve as Schooling Supervisor.

The Garden State Horse Show is New Jersey’s largest hunter/jumper show and is rated “AA” by USA Equestrian, the national governing body. As one of the largest shows of its kind in the country, the Garden State Horse Show attracts the nation’s best riders, including U.S. Equestrian Team and Olympic veterans such as Peter Leone and Nona Garson.

The show runs daily from 8:00 a.m. until about 5:00 p.m. and features five rings of exciting equestrian competition. The week’s competition is highlighted by the $50,000 Garden State Grand Prix, a member event of the Cosequin U.S. Grand Prix League, on Saturday, May 4.

Admission is $10.00 per carload on Saturday and free the rest of the week. For general show and ticket information, please call (508) 698-6810.
