Lechuza Caracas Edges Erg 12-11 In OT In Hall Of Fame Polo Saturday At International Polo Club Palm Beach

WELLINGTON, Florida – Ten-goaler Pite Merlos converted a 30-yard penalty shot 1:20 into overtime to lift Lechuza Caracas over ERG 12-11 in a 22-goal Hall of Fame Cup polo match Saturday at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

In a Hall of Fame Cup polo match earlier Saturday, Crab Orchard led the entire game en route to a 9-7 victory over Brigadoon.

Lechuza scored the first three goals and did not trail the entire game. ERG, playing its first game of the season, tied the game at 10-10 on a goal by Pablo Spinacci. Tommy Biddle gave Lechuza an 11-10 lead but a 40-yard penalty shot by Lucas Monteverde forced overtime.

Merlos finished with a team-high seven goals, six on penalty shots. Biddle added three goals for Lechuza Caracas (1-0) while Gaston Urturi scored two goals. Patron Victor Vargas did not score.

Monteverde led ERG (0-1) with seven goals while Spinacci scored three goals and Roberto Gonzales added one goal. Patron Scott Wood did not score.

In the first game, Pablo McDonough led Crab Orchard (1-0) with four goals. Memo Gracida and Rosendo Usandizaga added two goals each and Julio Gracida scored one goal for the winners.

Ten-goaler Adam Snow led Brigadoon (0-1) with three goals while Tiger Kneece scored two goals and Brian Prichard added one goal. Patron Christine Cato did not score.

Las Monjitas, led by 10-goaler Javier Novillo Astrada, plays Everglades, led by 8-goaler Owen Rinehart, in Sunday’s feature match at 3 p.m. at the International Polo Club Palm Beach stadium.

From Florida’s Turnpike, take Exit 93 (Lake Worth Road) and go west about six miles. Make a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club is on the left.
