Sport Loses Le Valley And Reel

The equestrian sport recently lost two people who made a great impact on the horse world. Lloyd LeValley, 54, of Harrison, NY, passed away on Feb 18. Robert Reel, 57, of Lexington, VA, died March 1.

LeValley was a USA Equestrian licensed hunter and hunter seat equitation judge as well as a licensed steward. He was dedicated to the Fairfield-Westchester PHA, serving as chairman in 1999-2000, and was serving as Membership Committee Chairman in 2003.

In 2002 he was awarded the Frank J. Flynn Sportsmanship Award, given to an individual who has demonstrated to be an outstanding sportsman and an asset to the horse world. He was active in Zone 2, where all one had to do to get his assistance, was ask.

Reel has been the Director of the Virginia Horse Center since its inception in the mid 1980s. During his tenure the Center developed into a venue recognized as one of the premier multi-purpose equine facilities in the nation and had a significant impact on the horse industry in Virginia.

Before moving to Virginia, Reel served as a 4-H Agent in Marion County, IN. He was on the 4-H youth staff, which won the USDA Super Service Award presented in Washington, D.C. He become involved in the 4-H Horse and Pony Program, and was appointed the Indiana State Fair 4-H Horse Show manager, beginning a life-long love of the equestrian business and his hobby of showing Shetland, Hackney and POA ponies to cart.

USA Equestrian Inc., as the National Equestrian Federation of the U.S., is the regulatory body for the Olympic and World Championship sports of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, reining, show jumping, and vaulting, as well as 19 other breeds and disciplines of equestrian competition. As
the country's largest multi-breed organization, the Federation has over 80,000 members and recognizes more than 2,800 competitions nationwide each year. It governs all aspects of competition, including educating and licensing all judges, stewards, and technical delegates who officiate at these shows.
