EFI WELCOMES APPOINTMENT OF LT.COL. GERRY MULLINS TO BOARD OF NCTC

Lt. Col. Gerry Mullins has been appointed to the Management Board of the National Coaching and Training Centre at the University of Limerick.

Lt.Col. Mullins is a Director of the Equestrian Federation of Ireland, and has for some time been Chairman of the EFI Coaching Committee.

The NCTC was established to assist in raising the standards in coaching and to provide specialised training for elite sportsmen and women. It has become an essential resource for Irish sport and will remain central to the development of a high performance strategy for Ireland.

EFI Secretary-General Col. Ned Campion said: "We congratulate Gerry Mullins on his appointment to the Board of the NCTC. This recognition of his incomparable work in organising the equestrian national coaching scheme is very welcome, and we are sure those same skills will be of great value to his role within the NCTC"

Lt. Col. Gerry Mullins is Officer Commanding, Army Equitation School, at McKee Barracks in Dublin. For many years he was one of Ireland's leading international show jumpers, and last season was chef d'equipe to three of Ireland's winning Samsung Nations Cup teams (Falsterbo, Drammen, Helsinki). Ireland won the Nations Cup Series during the 99/2000 season, for the first time in the history of the event.

He was also chef d'equipe to the Irish Young Rider Team which took Ireland's first-ever Silver Medal at the European Show Jumping Championships in 2000 at Hartpury in England
