Farm Foal and Broodmare News

Our Ratje-Niebuhr (National Hanoverian German Breeding Show) Class Winner SPS WORCESTER (MPT 8.39) by White Magic achieved her full States Premium status with the birth on March 1st of a filly. 'Cassandra' is an 'absolutely beautiful and elegant' dark bay filly by the 2000 Adelheidsdorf Performance Test winner Contendro. Mom and daughter are both doing well in Germany. She has been bred back to the successful and popular sire, Don Gregory. SALE PENDING.

SPS Worcester's sire WHITE MAGIC scored exceptionally well in the newly revised and integrated German Breed Value data system of the National Federation (FN Breed Values, the so-called integrated breed value estimation) in Dressage for 2001. White Magic was third overall and second for Hanoverians in dressage for this National ranking of all German Dressage Sires. He was first overall in the Suitability component, second overall (to Don Schufro (Old.)) and first Hanoverian in the Stallion Performance Test component and third overall (to Wolkentanz and Don Primero) in the Mare Performance Test component. White Magic, who unfortunately died at 8 years of age in 2000, is proving to be as superb a sire as he was a performer in the Bundeschampionships for many years.

Elite Mare TIRAMISU had a dark bay colt by Domiro by Donnerhall on March 15th. 'Dieter' is a long legged colt who is built uphill and has an excellent shoulder with early indications of excellent suspension....and he is a very friendly fellow. He is for sale and offered at $9,000. Tiramisu's 1999 foal, Calla Lily, is preparing for her Mare Performance Test at Glenwood Farms this summer. Lily will be bred to De Niro and join our breeding program. Her trainer raves about her presence and elegant movements. Because we try not to duplicate bloodlines in our broodmares, her dam Tiramisu will be offered for sale (she is being bred to Londonderry by Lauries Crusader) at a price of $19,500. In 1999 Londonderry was named Champion Young Hanoverian Stallion, and Federal Champion Four-Year Old Stallion Riding horse. His foals inherit his wonderful type, movements and willing temperaments.

SPA/ EM ALUETTE (MPT 8.22 - Argentan/Donnerhall/Bolero) had a large and handsome colt by Winterprinz on April 4th. 'Wyeth' is an impressive colt with a well set neck, excellent shoulder and hip and appears to have the wonderful suspension that we desired. He is a potential stallion prospect and is offered at $12,000. Aluette is being bred to Werbellin by Weltmeyer for her 2003 foal.

MIGHTY AVENGER xx in foal again to West Coast is due around May 19th.

New pictures of the foals can be seen at www.foals.com .

Due to requests, we now offer future foals on a pre-delivery sex- preference reserved basis or on our free waiting lists on 'first on list-first choice basis'. Three of the four foals for 2002 were reserved in advance, although the mares and mother nature in some cases failed to honor the wishes of the potential buyers for their preferred sex.

6th. Hanoverian Free-Jumping Competition - Verden -March: Posthumous success for the great Eiger I:

The two Eiger offspring Emilio and Esteban (breeder/owner: Walter and Frank Johannsen, Buxtehude) won the free-jumping competition of young horses out of the Hanoverian Breeding Program for Show Jumpers. The competition was also a great success for the Celle State Stud: Nearly all young jumping horses which were placed on the 1- 3 range are offspring of Celle State stallions. Especially Stakkato, Fabriano, Perpignon, Goodman and Escudo I attracted everybody's attention by outstanding offspring.

The "Programme Hannoveraner Springpferdezucht" was created in 1993. This breeding programme should give the breeding of Hanoverian show-jumping horses new impetus. A part of the population should produce above average show jumpers. About 1,300 mares with show jumping bloodlines in their pedigrees and good performances in mare performance tests or in competition were selected. They are supposed to be bred to a show-jumping sire. The main event for their offspring is the free-jumping competition for three- and four-year-olds, which takes place in Verden in March every year. In Memory of Biff (1982-2002)

Many of our long time friends may remember Jo Ann's event horse, Biff (Country Pleasure). Biff passed away on April 19, 2000. He was a loyal companion and friend to us and our horses for over 16 years, in addition to being a Training Level Champion Eventer and enthusiastic hunting horse. He spent his last several months carefully watching over Freedame (Fanny), M-A' s 2001 foal....Fanny also misses him very much. Biff has a wonderful resting place on the very highest part of our farm overlooking the beautiful and mighty Pacific Ocean.

Wishing everyone the best for this foaling season,

Jo Ann & Dale Thomas
