West Grove, PA—June 18, 2003—The Laurels at Landhope has announced that prominent, international course designer Harry Buurman will create the course for this year’s competition, September 5-7 in West Grove, PA.

Over the last 20 years, Buurman, a landscape architect from The Netherlands, has designed many national and international competition courses, including the courses at the World Pairs Championships in Riesenbeck, Germany and the World Four-In-Hand Championships in Apeldoorn, Holland. He is course designer at Riesenbeck this year for the German National Championships. His previous U.S. experience includes serving as course designer at the Gladstone Driving Event in Gladstone, NJ.

Buurman highlights a world-class panel of internationally renowned officials presiding over the 2003 Laurels at Landhope event. Other event officials include the President of the Jury, Diana Brownlie of Scotland, as well as Ground Jury members Macy Hill, Holly Pulsifer, and Anne Rawle of the United States; Jack Pemberton and David Wharton of Canada; and Sidney Smith of Great Britain. Enno Georg of Germany will be the Technical Delegate.

“We’re very excited to have such high caliber officials coming for the event,” said Event Organizer Jamie O’Rourke. “And we feel especially honored to have a course designer as distinguished as Harry Buurman. We believe his courses will present our drivers with the types of challenges drivers face at the world’s elite events.”

The Laurels at Landhope will host the 2003 USA Equestrian National Pony Championships, presented by Driving Essentials; the Martin Auctioneer/Kuhnle Carriage North American Single Horse Challenge; and is part of the FEI North American Driving Challenge and the Hunt’s Harness Preliminary Team Challenge. The Laurels at Landhope has been designated as a U.S. Equestrian Team Selection Trial for the 2004 Singles and Four-In-Hand World Championships.

New for this year is the exciting National American Kennel Club Tail Blazer’s Fall Dog Agility Trials that will run on Saturday and Sunday of the Laurels at Landhope Autumn Celebration weekend. Three rings will be in use throughout the trials for dogs and their handlers displaying spectacular feats of speed and agility.

The event’s Trade Fair will offer the best and most unique antiques, jewelry, apparel, collectibles, picnic and carriage appointments, and farm and garden items from a large array of vendors. Polo shirts and caps in trendy colors embroidered with the Laurels at Landhope logo as well as the 2002 Highlight CD and maps of the Cheshire Hunt Country will be for sale.

The popular Barbone Street Jazz Band will perform on Sunday afternoon in a concert that will be broadcast live by Chester County Radio Station WCOJ. The band, under the direction of Steve Barbone, includes Glenn Dodson, formerly the principal trombone player with the Philadelphia Orchestra; guitarist Sonny Troy, who performed with Peggy Lee and is the music director for Bobby Rydel’s Atlantic City performances; and Ace Tesone on bass. Tesone played and recorded with several jazz legends, including Clifford Brown, Mel Torme and Billie Holiday. The band has appeared at the Kimmel Center, the Berks Jazz Festival, West Chester University Jazz Festival, and opened for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at the prestigious Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in Wilmington.

The Laurels at Landhope benefits the Brandywine Conservancy, the Cheshire Hunt Conservancy, the Large Animal Protection Society, and the University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center.
