FEI Eventing World Cup resumes after a Month's Break

After a month's break, the FEI Eventing World Cup will resume during the weekend of 25 - 27 July. Two qualifiers will be held simultaneously at Lulworth (GBR) and Warwick (AUS).

Lulworth (GBR)
WHAT
The eleventh leg and third British qualifier will take from 25 through 27 July at the Lulworth International Horse Trials (GBR). This accolade puts Lulworth, which began 20 years ago, alongside the top events in the British Eventing calendar.

WHO
Fifty riders representing 12 nations (Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands Antilles, New Zealand, Spain and Sweden) are expected to compete at Lulworth. Amongst them are

. Andrew Hoy (AUS), three-time Olympic champion Team (Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000) and an Olympic silver medallist Individual in Sydney 2000. This is Hoy's third World Cup participation, following the inaugural qualifier at Gatcombre (GBR) and Bonn-Rodderberg (GER). As Hoy currently has only 14 points and holds the 7th position for Australia, he has not yet qualified for the Final. The Lulworth qualifier is therefore of particular importance to him.

. Jeanette Brakewell, individual silver medallist and team bronze medallist at last year's World Equestrian Games, finds herself in a delicate position as well. She scored 10 points in Chatsworth and consequently places 11th for Great Britain. According to the regulations, only the first five riders from Australia, Great Britain and New Zealand will qualify for the Final. Jeannette therefore needs a good result in order to be eligible for Pau.

Despite the large participation of British Eventers, only William Fox-Pitt has managed to win a World Cup qualifier so far. Fox-Pitt will compete at Lulworth and defend his position on the nine-year old gelding Tom Cruise II.

. The current standings leader Bettina Hoy (GER) will also be taking part.

WHEN
Dressage Test: Friday, 25 July, 11h00 - 17h00 and Saturday, 26 July, 10h30 - 15h30
Cross Country: Saturday, 26 July, 16h40 - 18h00
Jumping Test: Sunday, 27 July, 12h30 - 14h20
Prize-giving Ceremony: Sunday, 27 July at 15h00

Warwick (AUS)
WHAT
The twelfth leg and second Australian qualifier of the FEI Eventing World Cup will take place at Morgan Park, Warwick from 26 - 27 July. As the format of WC qualifiers is similar to the one to be implemented at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, a Chinese delegation representing the Shunyi Management Committee of Olympic Venues Mission, will be present at the event to look at the facilities and training venues to help in the preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Mr Rob Ferguson, Equestrian Queensland's General Manager said, "The Warwick World Cup has enticed Australia's elite riders to compete and should be an extremely exciting event, especially as a position on the Olympic team is on the mind of all elite riders."

WHO
Among the riders to compete at Warwick

. 1996 Olympic Team Gold Medallist, Wendy Schaeffer is bringing three horses up to compete at Warwick and should be a force to be reckoned with. She placed third at the first qualifying event in Australia scoring 20 points and needs wants to do better this time to confirm her place in final in Pau (FRA).

. Stuart Tinney who has had many career highlights including a Sydney Olympic Gold Medal and a forth place by Team at the 2002 World Equestrian Games. He will be competing on two horses at Warwick.

. Queensland's own Niki Chapman, who will be competing on three horses, is on the National Elite Eventing squad. She recently won the Brisbane City Council Olympic Award Trust. She is hoping to secure her chances of competing at the next year's Olympic Games in Athens.

WHEN
Dressage Test: Saturday, 26 July, 9H00 - 14H15
Cross Country: Sunday, 27 July, 12h30 - 13H30
Jumping Test: Sunday, 27 July, begins at 12h30 in reverse order of placing
