Husar Earns First Major Victory at Manchester Classic Horse Show

East Dorset, VT-- July 19, 2003-- Lucy Husar of Atlantic Highlands, NJ aboard Sarah Becker’s mare Kullatosen won the $1,500 NAL/WIHS Children’s Jumper Classic at the Manchester Classic Horse Show, July 16-20, the second week of the Vermont Summer Festival, July 9-August 10, held at the Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset, VT.

The fifteen-year-old, sophomore at Redbank Catholic High School was the only rider to produce a clear round in the jump-off. “I’m so excited. I can’t believe it,” she said of her win.

Husar’s victory in East Dorset marks her first win on the A-circuit. The teenager, who usually rides with Frank Madden and Max Amaya, has been training with Bobby Braswell of Ocala, FL while in Vermont. “This is the first time I’ve shown on this circuit. This is my first major win ever!”

Sarah Pankosky aboard White Robe, owned by Whipstick Farm LTD, earned second place, and Ashley Millspaugh rode her Smart Alec to finish in third.

Kris Hoffman Kennedy of Newtown, PA earned top honors in the $1,500 NAL/WIHS Adult Amateur Jumper Classic aboard her Quest D’Or. Kennedy was one of nine horse-and-rider combinations to ride clear in the first round to qualify to ride over the shortened jump-off course. Turning in a clear round and a time of 35.934 seconds, she earned the blue ribbon.

Alexa Clapp of Gainesville, FL aboard Let’s Dance Jil, owned by Hillary Schlusemeyer, took second place after turning in a clear round and a slightly slower time of 37.016 seconds. Third place was awarded to Laura Connolly on her Night Star.

Earlier in the day in the hunter rings Enrique, owned and ridden by Kym Smith of Southampton, NY was named Champion in the Adult Amateur Hunter for riders ages 18-35. Lynn Evangelista rode Banjo, owned by Mary Evangelista, to win the Champion ribbon for the Adult Amateur Hunter for riders ages 35-45. Mary Canner and J’Adore, owned by Bay Bridge Farm, took home the Championship ribbon in the Adult Amateur Hunter for riders 46 and over.

The Vermont Summer Festival is New England’s largest “AA” rated hunter/jumper horse show. This year’s event includes five USET-recognized $35,000 Grand Prix to be held on the last day of each show and five $10,000 Mini Prix to be held on the Friday of each show. Each of the five weeks also features a $10,000 Show Jumping Hall Of Fame High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper class, part of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series which determines which junior and amateur/owner riders will qualify to ride at the 2003 National Horse Show.
