FEI Eventing World Cup News

Another exciting Eventing weekend lies ahead. The 17th and penultimate qualifier of the 2003 FEI Eventing World series will be held at Martinvast-Cherbourg (FRA) from 22 through 24 August. This northern town located near the Channel successfully hosted a World Cup qualifier one year ago. The winner was national Eventing star Jean Teulère on Espoir de la Mare who a month after their victory at Martinvast went on to become world champions at the World Equestrian Games at Jerez de la Frontera (ESP).

WHO
Fifty-five riders with 75 horses representing Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and Switzerland have announced their participation in this World Cup qualifier. Among them:
. Olympic medallist Andrew Nicholson (NZL), who won the inaugural qualifier at Gatcombe with Mallards Treat. This is his third World Cup qualifier as he was also present at Chatsworth last May. He has entered two horses: Duddles and Astronave.
. Another famous New Zealander is Olympic champion Blyth Tait, who was 2nd at Martinvast last year winning 24 points with Ready Teddy. This year he has entered two horses: Eze and the 16-year old gelding Welton Envoy.
. One of the greatest Eventing champions Lucinda Green (GBR) will also be at Martinvast. A former World Champion and a double European Champion,
she has won CCI**** Badminton six times.
. Defending champion Jean Teulère of France will bring two less experienced horses: eight-year old gelding Hobby du Mée and ten-year old Famoso Mail with whom he placed 7th in CIC** Ecublens (SUI) last July. Espoir de la Mare is currently not competing in view of next year's Olympic Games.

Bettina and Andrew Hoy, who have been among the most active World Cup participants and both of whom are among the series' leaders, will also be there.
