Fiesta Day Fun Featured at the 2003 Hampton Classic Horse Show

Bridgehampton, NY—August 29, 2003—The fun and excitement of the third annual Fiesta Day was the main attraction at the 28th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, NY.

Presented by Hoy, the second largest Spanish language daily in the country, Fiesta Day is a one-day event intended as a tribute to the Greater New York Hispanic and Latino community. Over thirty diplomats from Latin America and numerous Hispanic civic leaders including representatives of the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce participated in Fiesta Day celebrations at the Hampton Classic Horse Show.

In a special ceremony in the grand prix ring, Yanina Alvarez of Argentina was honored with the 2003 Outstanding Hispanic Horseman Award, presented to a Hispanic individual who has contributed to the horse industry in the United States. Alvarez is Argentina’s National Champion of Artistic Gymnastics and is also a veteran World Vaulting Championship competitor. Throughout the Hampton Classic Horse Show, Alvarez has been treating spectators to world-class vaulting demonstrations that include executing a sequence of compulsory vaulting movements on horseback as well as performing a freestyle program to music.

Job information and career opportunities were available to visitors interested in working in the equine field. “Careers in the Horse Industry/Las Carerras en la Industria de Caballo”, a bilingual pamphlet created by the Hampton Classic and unveiled at the first Fiesta Day in 2001, was again made available free of charge as was the bilingual children’s coloring book, The World of the Horse™/El Mundo del Caballo.

Entertainment was provided by a wide variety of performers including third-generation Latin American performer Apryl Cadabra, the children’s ballet Mexico Lindo dancing to traditional Mexican Folkloric Music, and the Traveling Hispanic Theater. Latin Music sensations Felix Andino, Raices Del Viento, Pepe Castillo and the Caribbean Tropical Trio, Punto Y Coma, and Willie Santana showcased their unique musical abilities with the sounds of Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, Bachata and Bolero filling the air.

In addition, traditional cuisine from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Cuba was sampled and enjoyed.

Shopping was added to the mix with the debut of the Mercado at the Classic with Latino-owned vendor booths offering arts, crafts, fashion, and other items for sale. For those who missed the opportunity to shop on Fiesta Day, the Mercado will be open until Sunday to meet popular demand.

Since opening in spectacular style on Sunday, August 24, with Manhattan Mortgage Company’s Opening Day, presented by Distinction Magazine, the horse show grounds in Bridgehampton, New York, have been alive with activity. Featured events on the weekend include the Eighth Annual Cablevision’s Kids Day on Saturday, August 30, while the Hampton Classic Horse Show culminates at 2 p.m. with the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix on Sunday, August 31.

Each year the Hampton Classic Horse Show attracts more than 50,000 spectators and celebrities to watch the country’s best horses and riders compete as well as enjoy the extravagant social events.

Five show rings, plus vendors, restaurants, and the children’s area are operating throughout the week. Admission is $5 per person or $15 per carload, with children under 6 admitted free. Reserved grandstand seating for Grand Prix Sunday, August 31, is $15 per person (in addition to $5/person or $15/carload admission) or $25 per person in the special Premium Seating center sections. Parking is free throughout the show week.
