Top Two Riders Battle For KL Grand Prix 2003 Title

Kuala Lumpur, August 15, 2003 - The excitement is mounting as the international equestrian community waits with bated breath for the world's two top riders, Markus Fuchs and Ludger Beerbaum, to meet in a clash of skills and wills in the upcoming International Horse Show 2003, to be held in the Putra Stadium from 2-5 October.

Swiss rider Markus Fuchs, the current World Number One Rider and runner up Ludger Beerbaum have announced their intentions to compete for the much coveted Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix Title in October.

Fuchs, 47, for the second month this August, is the ruling world champion since a spectacular defeat of German Ludger Beerbaum's reign of two years since the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) Gandini World Cup Jumping Riders Rankings began in January 2001.

Whether Fuchs will be riding with Tinka's Boy, his famed 13-year old Dutch stallion, who helped him win the Grand Prix of Ascona recently, remains a mystery.

The KL Grand Prix will highlight showjumping, the most thrillingly intense and challenging equestrian sport. Indoors it becomes even more breathtaking. The action is inches away.

The rules are simple: jump a course of fences set on a twisting, turning course without dropping a rail or falling off within the time allowed.

Tickets can be bought from RM 10 to RM 1,500 at www.klgrandprix.com or through the ticket hotline at 03-42603333.

The KL Grand Prix International will become a vital part of the yearly international circuit, following in the footsteps of other international sporting events, such as the Formula One Racing and Tour de Langkawi.

Cash prizes totaling a whopping RM 2 million await the best riders who will compete in the different categories, the Young Rider Challenge, Asia Trophy Series, Grand Prix International Series with trophies for Leading Young Rider and Leading Malaysian Rider.

Wan Zaleha Radzi, managing director of Asia Promote, the organizers for this event said, "Overwhelming response has been received both internationally and locally. We are very excited. This is the F1 of Horse Shows."
