Charlie Jayne, 17, of Elgin, IL, riding In Sync (Thoroughbred: Excavate – Horn’s Girl, by U Pos Ent), finished in the top spot to win the second annual Monarch International/USAE National Junior Hunter Championships – East Coast. The championships were held August 11 – 12, in Lexington, KY. Jayne and In Sync finished the three phase competition, judged by Frank Willard, Betty Oare and James Toon. Jayne was awarded the Monarch International Perpetual Trophy, and a Triple Crown custom cooler. In addition, Monarch International donated a Show Circuit Magazine letterman jacket and a crystal trophy awarded for one year. In Sync is owned and trained by Alex Jayne.

Finishing in the reserve spot was Lauren Van Eldik, 17, of Ocala, FL, riding the Don Stewart, Jr. owned and trained Hilton (Dutch Warmblood).

Riders qualified for this event by winning a champion or reserve champion at an “A” rated Junior Hunter Division at a USA Equestrian competition.

The winners of the Scholarship Grant Fund of $1000 each were Danielle Vijan of Westerville, OH, Courtney McKay of Ocala, FL, Whitney Snyder of Manhattan, KS, Kristina McKay of Wildwood, MO, and Karlyn Wilhelm of Moorpark, CA. Applicants wrote an essay about what riding has meant to them and how the grant would affect their lives. The grant is to be used for educational purposes. These scholarships were made possible through the generous donations of Christina Schlusemeyer, Mr. & Mrs. Bob Evert, Hedgerow LTD and the Roper Family, Elvenstar Farms and James Hagman, and Cathy Mendez and Waldenbrook Farm.

Miracle (Oldenburg), owned by Christy Russo and ridden by Alexandra Skiffington of Wellington, FL, was awarded the War Dress Memorial perpetual trophy. This award is presented to the highest scoring mare in the competition.
