BIGGEST EVER PRIZE SET FOR HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW

- BEIB £100,000 BONUS CHALLENGE –

A massive £100,000 challenge has been set for this year’s Horse of the Year Show (Wembley Arena, 27 September – 1 October 2000), making it the biggest ever show jumping prize to have been offered in the UK.

Sponsored by BEIB (British Equestrian Insurance Brokers), the official brokers to the British Showjumping Association, the prize is double the amount set at last year’s show. This year three prize levels have been introduced:

  • £20,000 will be awarded to a rider who wins both the Puissance on Saturday evening and the Grand Prix on Sunday evening or:
  • £50,000 will be awarded if, as well as winning the two above events, the rider also wins the Leading Show Jumper event on Sunday matinee or:
  • £100,000 will be awarded to a rider if they win the Puissance, Grand Prix, Leading Show Jumper and Speed Horse of the Year on Sunday matinee

Simon Mackaness, Director of BEIB said, “BEIB are one of the leading showjumper insurance brokers in the world and we are delighted to offer this BEIB £100,000 Bonus Challenge at Horse the Year Show. This is a great opportunity for two of the top brand names in equestrian sports to work together to provide a thrilling climax for this hugely popular show.

Mark Wein, director of Grandstand Media Ltd, organisers of Horse of the Year Show said: “As the show enters a new millennium, in its 52nd year, it is a sign of its continued success that we are able to offer a bonus fund of £100,000. Our celebrity-packed Gala Night performance is a fantastic evening of competition and entertainment. This challenge will ensure that the atmosphere is even more charged as well as possibly being a night to go down in history!”

Over 40,000 people will visit the Horse of the Year Show this year, the climax of the British equestrian season. Visitors can experience the raw nerves of the competitors as top riders battle it out, the crowd at fever pitch, the awesome equestrian displays, the roar of the commentator, shopping with over 150 stalls, and much, much more …

This year’s three very different special displays include the amazing Jean François Pignon making his only UK performance this year at Horse of the Year Show. Pignon displays a remarkable bond with his horses manifested in a magical performance which combines classical dressage moves with equestrian theatre, sometimes verging on the unbelievable. Making its debut to Wembley Arena, is the Metropolitan Police’s Activity Ride which demonstrates the unnerving ability of the horse to cope with difficult and intimidating situations. And finally, but not least, is a miniature military display – The HOYS Mounted Guard - being performed by members of the Pony Club with an average age of nine years.
