U.S Dominates Field At Spruce Meadows

U.S. riders ended in the top three positions in Wednesday's International Open I Welcome Class at the Masters Tournament held at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, September 4, 2002.

Laura Kraut and her 2000 Olympic mount, the 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, Liberty (Libero H -Bianca, by Nimmerdor) finished with no faults in a time of 58.02, just fractions of a second faster than the second place rider, teammate Molly Ashe, who finished with a clean round and a time of 58.37 seconds, riding the 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, Lutopia (Gentleman / Rigoletto). Teammate Beezie Madden, riding Conquest II (Concorde - Fernod, by Ulft), also finished with no faults in 58.75 seconds to land in the third position.

Other U.S. riders also finished in the money with Margie Goldstein-Engle and Hidden Creek's Jones (Obrecht - Dionne, by Tolbert) by finishing seventh, Rich Fellers and McGuinness in ninth and Schuyler Riley and Carolus H (Capitol I - Lacq, by Roman) captured the tenth spot.

This competition is the only Nation Cup competition in North America this year. The Nation's Cup Class consists of two rounds and will be held Saturday, September 7, 2002. The team members for the United States are Margie Goldstein-Engle, Laura Kraut, Alison Firestone and Schuyler Riley. Individual participation in the Masters is based on participation in the National, Continental, Canada One and North American Tournaments.

USA Equestrian Inc., as the National Equestrian Federation of the U.S., is the regulatory body for the Olympic and World Championship sports of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, reining, show jumping, and vaulting, as well as 19 other breeds and disciplines of equestrian competition. As
the country's largest multi-breed organization, the Federation has over 80,000 members and recognizes more than 2,800 competitions nationwide each year. It governs all aspects of competition, including educating and licensing all judges, stewards, and technical delegates who officiate at these shows.
