horse British Horse Society Safety Symposium takes on the Big Issues: Risks, Roads, Hats, Bodies and Blue Lights!

The British Horse Society's Safety Department is holding a Safety Symposium on Saturday 4 October looking at the Big Issues: Risks, Roads, Hats, Bodies and Blue Lights. The day-long event will take place at The Quality Inn, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, starting at 10 o'clock.

The day is aimed at exploring the relationship between horses, riding on the roads and other road users as well as protective clothing and risk assessment. Topics will include emergency vehicles and how horses react to them, cyclists' and drivers' perceptions of horses on the road, risk assessment and riders' responsibilities - particularly pertinent following the Law Lords decision earlier this year (Mirvahedy v Henley) - body protectors, riding hats and avoiding injury to riders' teeth.

Guest speakers include David Massey from the Blue Light User Group, Andy Cook from the Cycling Touring Club, Robin Cummins, chief examiner for the Driving Standards Agency and Brenda Gilligan, a practising solicitor specialising in equine matters and author of Practical Horse Law.

Tickets for the symposium cost £50.00 (BHS members), £55.00 (non-BHS members). To book your place and for further information please contact: The BHS Safety Dept., (tel: 01926 707823) or visit the BHS website: www.bhs.org.uk/safety.htm Places are limited so early booking is advised. Accommodation is available at a reduced rate by contacting the BHS Safety Dept.
