Champions Crowned at the 2003 Hampton Classic Horse Show

Bridgehampton, NY—August 31, 2003—As is the case every year at the Hampton Classic Horse Show, a wide variety of championship titles were awarded.

At the 28th edition of the Hampton Classic, local favorite Joe Fargis of Southampton, NY, was named the Open Jumper Champion riding Ingaletta. Fargis, 55, is a double Olympic gold medalist, having won both team and individual gold in 1984.

In this year’s Championship report, a number of coincidences were found. Double victories went to Alexandra Arute of Avon, CT. Arute won the Small Pony Hunter title riding Far From Home and the Medium Pony Hunter Championship title riding Enchanted Forest.

Local rider Paige Allardice of Sagaponack, NY, won two titles as well. Riding Rainbeau’s Reflection, Allardice took home the Children’s Working Hunter Large Pony Championship and the Children’s Working Hunter Large Pony – Section B, riding King of Hearts.

Mary L. Stevenson of New York, NY, and Partly Cloudy did double duty. They picked up the Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35 Championship as well as the Local Working Hunter (Non-Pro) Championship.

In the Children’s Hunter Horse 14 and Under - Section B, Kelsey Rae Calabro of Sagaponack, NY, earned the Championship riding Renior. Calabro was also the winner of the Local Children’s Hunter Horse 14 and Under - Section B Championship.

Pamela Vance of Amenia, NY, should have also been awarded a championship title for rare occurrences. She won the Adult-Amateur 36-45 Championship title riding Seven Bridges and also claimed the Adult Amateur 36-45 - Section B title with Coatails. Not only did Vance earn the two titles, her two horses also tied for the High Score Award in the Adult Amateur division.

Family champions seemed to be a theme. While David Tromp, 17, of North Salem, NY, jumped his way to the Junior Jumper Championship title for riders 18 and under, his sister, Emmy, 19, won the Amateur/Owner Jumper Championship riding Amelia just hours later.

Coaches also taught their students by example. While Shacine Belle, riding for JT Farm of South Salem, NY, earned the Green Confirmation Hunter Championship title riding In Disquise, her student, Alesandra Perna, earned the Small Junior Hunter 15 and Under Championship title riding Kindred Spirit.

Local rider Charlie Weaver of North Salem, NY, won the Local Working Hunter Pro – Section B, on Opening Day while two of his students also won Championship titles. Stormy Good of New York, NY, claimed the Amateur-Owner Hunter 36 and Over title riding Broadway while Kelly Klein of New York, NY, earned the Adult Amateur Hunter 46 and Over - Section B title riding Oz.

The 28th Hampton Classic Horse Show featured the top riders in the country competing in Bridgehampton, NY. Officially opened on Sunday, August 24, the Hampton Classic Horse Show ran until Sunday, August 31, when it culminated with the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix, a member event of the King Shavings U.S. Grand Prix League (USGPL). Once again, the Hampton Classic Horse Show was the perfect end to a perfect summer.
