Billed as an entrepreneurial project that produced excellent results, Equus 2001-The Horse Event, was winner of not just Best New Exhibition, at the Marketing Event Awards held 28th September at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London, but also the coveted top award of the night, the Grand Prix Award.

Mike Fletcher, Editor of Marketing Event stated, "Our Grand Prix winner, Equus 2001-The Horse Event, is a launch that went ahead despite the foot and mouth crisis and smashed all expectations courtesy of a well-thought-out campaign"

There were over 200 entries short-listed for a variety of awards with many leading companies present. Winners included BBC Technology for Most Effective Use of Exhibitions, BT for Best Portable Stand and Gardeners World Live for Best Consumer Exhibition.

The judging panel was made up of a number of leading industry figures including Andrew Roberts, Managing Director of Reed Exhibitions UK (the worlds biggest exhibition organising company), Nigel Lloyd-Jones, Chairman of HP:ICM, Matthew Davies, Director of Events at Haymarket Business Publications, Austen Hawkins Deputy Director of the Association of Exhibition Organisers and Andrew Morris, Chief Executive of Earls Court and Olympia.

Event Director, Sarah Cartwright, states "Justine and I are thrilled to have been given this great accolade from the exhibition industry. It has been very exciting working on Equus over the past 18 months, combining our expertise in exhibition organising with our interest in horses."

Equus - The Horse Event, the national equestrian exhibition based in London, was conceived and organised by Directors Sarah Cartwright and Justine Tatham. With visitors expected from all areas of the countryside, going ahead with the event had to be considered very carefully. MAFF, (now DEFRA), advised that the event should continue, being a central London venue in an area that had not yet been affected, provided the organisers followed MAFF guidelines with disinfectant for all vehicles and pedestrians.

Equus was held at ExCeL, the new London events venue based in the Docklands, in April this year and was a resounding success attracting 18,461 visitors. There were equestrian celebrities demonstrating with their horses in a Main Arena, built specially for the four-day event, which included Lucinda Green, six times Badminton winner, Olympic Showjumper John Whitaker and Olympic Dressage Rider, Richard Davison.

Equus-The Horse Event will take place again next year at ExCeL, London 4-7 April 2002. There are 2000 seats around the Main Arena, a new Evening Extravaganza, top displays and the chance to shop for all equestrian goods and services over the four days at the start of the new season.
