horse World Breeding Championship, Lanaken 2003

The FEI World Breeding Show Jumping Championships for young horses took place in Lanaken, Belgium last week, September 25th to 28th.

Of the five year old horses representing the Irish Sport Horse studbook, five jumped clear in the first qualifier. These were Warrenstown We Three, Cavalier Starlight, Belfast Knight, Ardenteggle Flight and Welcome Captain. Ardenteggle Flight, ridden by Richie Moloney, also jumped clear in the second qualifier earning her place in the final round where she picked up an unfortunate four faults to finish 29th out of the initial 155 starters in the five year old category.

In the six year old category, the second qualifier finished with Echo Beach ridden by Cian O’Connor in third place, Cnoc Na Seimre ridden by Capt. Gerry Flynn in seventh place and Early Days ridden by Richie Moloney thirty-first of the 126 starters.

Only two horses jumped clear in the final, with Echo Beach and Early Days picking up eight faults each to finish tenth and fourteenth respectively. In the consolation class
Mo Chroi ridden by Capt. Gerry Flynn jumped double clear to finish nineteenth out of the seventy-three competitors.

Of the two seven year old Irish Sport Horses competing at Lanaken, Furistocrat ridden by Edward Moloney picked up four faults and Welcome Flagmount twelve in the first qualifier. In the second qualifier they had five and eight faults respectively and so neither qualified for the seven year old final.

Another aspect of the show at Lanaken was the Zangersheide foal auction. The highest priced filly foal, Cruisinetty Z, was by World Breeding Championship, Lanaken 2003

•Ardenteggle Flight ~ 1998 Irish Sport Horse mare by Errigal Flight (ISH), out of Hilarious Jim (ISH), bred by James Scully, Ballinakill, Ballickmoyler; Co Carlow, owned by Andrew Doogue, Arden Teggle, Killeshin, Co Carlow and ridden by Richie Moloney.
•Warrenstown We 3 ~ 1998 Irish Sport Horse gelding by Concorde (KWPN), out of Dillettante (AES), by Daz bred by Harron Eakin Farms, Derryboy, Crossgar, Co Down, owned by Dr Ronan Tynan, Brittas Clinic, Johnstown, Co Kilkenny and ridden by Tholm Keane.
•Belfast Knight ~ 1998 Irish Sport Horse Stallion by Cavalier Royale (Holst), out of Emily Bronte (ISH), by Uncle Walter (TB) bred by Gilbert Fletcher, 17 Glascar Road, Banbridge, Co. Down, BT 32 5 DT.
