Racehorse Charity Nets Nearly £40,000 At Plumpton

Morning on the gallops and day at Goodwood raises £850 at auction
Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare Centre expects to be nearly £40,000 better off thanks to a fundraising race day at Plumpton Racecourse.

The majority of the money is raised from an auction. Items going under the hammer included a morning on the gallops for four people with trainer Amanda Perrett at Pulborough, followed by a day's racing at Goodwood in May, including a gourmet picnic.

There were also 2004 nominations to Celtic Swing, which raised a massive £5,000, and to Silver Patriarch (£1,900), as well as a box at Cheltenham (£1,300).

Moorcroft, which takes in ex-racehorses to assess and re-school with the ultimate aim of re-homing them, relies almost exclusively on fundraising events and private donations so the Plumpton race day is a major date in the charity's calendar.

Graham Oldfield, the hands-on chief executive of Sussex-based Moorcroft, is delighted at the success of this year's event.

"As always, we're indebted to everyone who generously donated items for the auction," he said. "And, indeed to all those who contributed to the success of the event."

Anyone who would like to support Moorcroft can do so by making a donation or by purchasing Moorcroft Christmas cards - call 01403 791916 or log on to www.mrwc.org.uk for more information.
