LONDONERS TO PRAY FOR FARMERS IN FOOT AND MOUTH
CRISIS
NFU President Ben Gill is to join Londoners in a
special church service taking place at St Martins-in-the-Fields this Sunday.
The Reverend Nick Holtam, who is also the Chaplain to the farmers' club, wanted
to provide an opportunity for London to pray for those living and working in
the countryside during the foot and mouth crisis.
Ben Gill said: "The level of concern and sympathy for the current plight
of farming families from Londoners is overwhelming, and many people living in
the city have asked for this opportunity to express their support.
"Too often people talk about a divide between the town and countryside but
the reality is that many people in London are deeply upset by the current
plight of British farmers.
"They want to recognise publicly the interdependence of urban and rural
life, gratitude for those who farm and sympathy for their present suffering and
loss."
Ben Gill, who will be reading one of the lessons during the service, will also
be joined by key representative from the Government and city authorities.
The service which starts at 12 noon is open to all that wish to demonstrate
publicly their support for Britain's farming communities.
