USET Announces
Young Rider Training Session

Gladstone, New Jersey—March
4, 2002—The United States Equestrian Team (USET) is proud to announce
that international show jumping rider, Gabriella Salick, will conduct
a training session for young riders at USET Headquarters in Gladstone,
New Jersey on April 12-14, 2002.
“Gabriella has
represented the United States on many occasions in international competitions,
and will donate her time so the U.S. Equestrian Team can reach out to
young athletes at the beginnings of their careers,” said Sally Ike,
Director of Show Jumping Activities for the USET.
The training session,
for young riders ages 10-15, will provide a unique world-class, hands-on
learning experience set amongst the ambience of the historic USET headquarters,
where over the years many championship teams and world-class riders have
trained. Riders will bring their own mounts. Horses and ponies will be
stabled in the main USET Stables.
The weekend will begin
on Friday night with a welcome reception and dinner for participants and
their parents. On Saturday, participants will ride in three groups, with
no more than 8-10 riders per group. Groups will be divided based on skill
level and fence height. During the afternoon, riders will participate
in dismounted stable care sessions with noted USET veterinarian Brendan
Furlong and other experts in the field of horse care.
The sessions will
conclude on Sunday with a mini-horse show and a field trip to the Essex
Foxhounds Point-to-Point, which will be taking place that afternoon adjacent
to USET headquarters. Riders may either choose to participate in or observe
the point-to-point.
Salick, a consistent
competitor on the national grand prix tour, became well known internationally
in 1999 when she rode on the USET Developing Rider Tour that earned Nations
Cup victories in Budapest, Hungary, and in Falsterbo, Sweden. In 2000,
Salick scored top ribbons at all three major U.S. indoor shows, placing
second in the $125,000 Budweiser Grand Prix of New York at the National
Horse Show, and third in both the $100,000 President’s Cup at the
Washington International Horse Show and the $50,000 Budwesier Grand Prix
De Penn National at Harrisburg, PA. Salick has started out strong in 2002,
placing second in the $50,000 Bayer/USET Wellington Cup and third in the
$35,000 Nutrena Grand Prix of Palm Beach in Wellington, FL.
