ROOKIE WINS AT AMERICAN GRAND PRIX SHOW JUMPING
CHAMPIONSHIPS
WELLINGTON, FL - April 5, 2001 - Rookie Rider,
Paige Rassas of Northfield, IL captured the second round qualifier for the
Intermediate American Grand Prix Show Jumping Championships. Rassas and Chica
Bay, the 9 year old Holsteiner mare bested a field 41 starters by turning in
double clear rounds and crossing the timers in 34.074 seconds. Rookie, Rassas
out rode 1998 rider of the year, McLain Ward of Brewster, NY and the 9 year old
Dutch-bred mare, Farrah by 2 seconds with a finishing time 36.036 seconds.
Third place went to 7 time AGA rider of the year, Margie Engle of Wellington,
FL and the 10 year-old Dutch-bred gelding Hidden Creek's Jones. They finished
the seven obstacle Buddy Brown show jumping course in 36.321 seconds, just
3/10ths of second behind Ward.
Tomorrow, Paige Rassas will challenge, Wellington superstar and 7-time AGA
rider of the year, Margie Goldstein-Engle and McLain Ward, in the Intermediate
AGA Championships.
