Analysis.
Remarkable success of the Italian breeding,
particularly of the roman training, in the Italian Guineas that reward the
stable of trainer Lorenzo Brogi and his stable jockey Maurizio Pasquale with
two victories (that of Giovane Imperatore as an outsider) and have at the
second place LErede in the Premio Parioli and at the fourth Morena Park
in the Premio Regina Elena. The leading trainer of Northern Italy, Bruno
Grizzetti, had not a wonderful day but gained important places, particularly in
the Premio Regina Elena.
The winner of this race, Bugia, descends from a
valid female line of Dormello-Olgiata Stud (Balestrina, winner of Gran Premio
del Jockey Club, Gr.1 - Beatrice Adams, Italian Oaks, Gr.1) developed in the
last crossbreds by Scuderia Nordovest, using stallions of Nearco sire line:
Marracci, Fabulous Dancer and finally, Kendor, who exercised a strong influence
on physical, psychical and athletic characteristics of the daughter. This
female line reckons on only moderate winners but Bevola, Bugia grand-mother, by
Marracci, was a good race filly in the middle of 80 years, at listed
level in Italy.
The Premio Parioli winner, Giovane Imperatore,
belongs instead to an American female line, imported to Italy in 1989 by the
Interpart Finanziaria with Siddharta. This Chiefs Crown daughter was a
very good athlete having won 7 races from 3 to 5 years, included the Premio
Bagutta Memorial Cumani, Gr.3, and placed at listed level; then at stud,
owned by Mister Gianfranco Verricelli, she showed appreciable qualities having
bred, before Giovane Imperatore (her second product), purchased at Italian
(A.N.A.C. selected) yearling Sales for 110 million lires, the good winner Pay
My Dream (96, by Acatenango).
The female line of Giovane Imperatore
reconnects in third generations to Fairness (63, by Cavan), unraced, but mother
of seven winners, included Solford, Coral Eclipse Stakes, Gr.1, sire.
Giovane Imperatore, before the victory in
Italian Two Thousand Guineas achieved 3 victories and 2 places in 5 races in
good but not group or listed company, while Bugia had to own credit 4 victories
and 2 places in 6 races, multi-winner at listed level at 2 years.
Both winners captured the Italian Guineas after
going for a race in wait and with a remarkable turn of foot in the last
furlong, advancing in the outside.
The Italian Guineas mark a strong defeat of
Northern Dancer sire line; he was represented by 9 offspring either in the
Premio Regina Elena or in the Premio Parioli, the victory having recompensed a
filly heir of Nearco - Nasrullah branch (3 offspring in the Premio Regina
Elena) and a descendant of Native Dancer sire line, European branch of Atan -
Sharpen Up (5 starters in the Premio Parioli).
