NEW Inter-Services Tournament to
Launch HOYS
To celebrate the historic links
between Equestrianism and the Armed Forces at the first show of the new
millennium, Horse of the Year Show (2nd - 7th October) will provide an
exceptional evening of stunning competition and action packed displays
featuring all branches of the Armed Services and the Metropolitan Police force.
The HOYS Spectacular 2001 will take place on Tuesday 2nd October for
one performance only.
"The HOYS Spectacular
aims to combine the very best of Military Equestrianism with the wonderful
atmosphere and occasion that is the Horse of the Year Show," director
Mark Wein, Grandstand Media Ltd, commented "The show has grown
phenomenally over the last few years and this year has expanded to include an
additional day, which we felt was the ideal opportunity to bring a dramatic new
slant to the opening night of HOYS"
The Army, Navy and Royal Air
Force will compete for supremacy in a special Inter Services Show Jumping
competition. The HOYS Spectacular Evening will be further enhanced with
displays and competitions including:
MUSICAL RIDE OF THE
HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY – Traditional pomp and ceremony with the world
famous musical ride in a newly choreographed presentation themed exclusively
for Horse of the Year Show.
METROPOLITAN POLICE
ACTIVITY RIDE – a fast moving display of professionalism and trust
between the officers and their mounts. The Metropolitan Police Activity Ride
negotiates over 100 small obstacles during the ride whilst demonstrating skills
of balance and bravery.
CEREMONIAL DRUM HORSES
AND TRUMPETERS – add a real sense of time-honoured occasion to the
event.
SKILLS AT ARMS
– brilliantly fast paced display of the skills used by the Military of
old.
GUN CARRIAGE RACING
– teams from the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery take part in a
high-speed race against the clock, with 1½ ton carriages, no brakes, and
six horses to manoeuvre around the arena, there is no margin for error.
With additional elements to be
announced shortly the opening evening’s entertainment is set to provide a
unique experience to launch this year’s show.
