Oregon High Desert Classics Horseshow Preparations Under Way

The 12th Annual Oregon High Desert Classics Hunter/Jumper horseshows will take place at the J Bar J Boys Ranch, July 18th – 22nd and 25th - 29th, 2001. Competitions take place throughout the week and culminate on Sunday afternoon with the $15,000 Merrill Lynch Grand Prix on 7/22 and the $20,000 Eagle Crest Resort/Running Y Ranch Resort Grand Prix on 7/29/01.

Since 1990, the horseshow has been the primary fund-raiser for the programs of J Bar J Youth Services, who offer a variety of services to at-risk youth from the local community and statewide. The programs that benefit include the J Bar J Boys Ranch, Cascade Youth & Family Center and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon.

In addition to the equestrian competition, which takes place throughout the days of the show, there are vendors on site, selling gifts, clothing and refreshments. Both Friday evenings, there are concerts which are free to the public – Friday 7/20 brings "The Ticks" and on 7/27 "Bluesberry Jam" is on stage. Music starts at 6p.m. and goes till 9p.m.

The shows wrap up each week with Sunday Brunch and the Grand Prix competitions. Seats may be purchased for the noon Brunch in the Patron’s tent, which is followed at 2p.m. by the Grand Prix, where the best horses and riders from all over the West compete over huge fences for up to $20,000.
