2000/2001 FEI/PSI World Jumping & Dressage Challenge
Finals
The first FEI World Jumping and Dressage Challenge Finals supported by PSI took
place at the premises of Mr Ullrich Kasselmann in Hagen a T.W., Germany on the
weekend of 7-8 July 2001.
The first FEI/PSI World Jumping and Dressage Challenge Finals were a tremendous
success. Riders who would never have ever dreamed of competing in Europe once
in their lifetime were given this opportunity in Hagen. With the support of
PSI, the FEI World Challenge has received a new impulsion. The Finals have
shown that our developing NFs have riders with extremely high potential.
Sixteen riders in Jumping and 9 in Dressage rode on high quality horses
borrowed from Messrs. Schockemöhle and Kasselmann. The riders had to
qualify for the Finals through qualification competitions.
In Jumping, riders from ECU, NZL, COL, DOM, GRE, PUR, CHI and UAE competed in
two qualifying competitions and a semi-final. A Consolation Competition for
those who did not qualify for the semi-final was organised with riders from
GRE, NZL, RSA and COL. The Final with change of horses included 4 riders from
Latin America, i.e. ECU, PUR, COL and CHI.
In Dressage, riders from AUS, ZIM, BRA, COL, CZE, BOL, HUN, BAR and IND took
part in two qualifiers. The Final, with change of horses, saw the participation
of riders from three different continents, i.e. Australia, South America and
Africa. The change of horses formula in the Dressage Final was most
interesting and maintained the suspense until the end.
Beside the competitions, a full programme was organised to entertain the riders
and their families during their stay in Hagen. All participants had the
opportunity to go sightseeing, to visit Paul Schockemöhles stable, to
watch jumping and dressage presentations as well as training demonstrations,
etc. The horses were carefully chosen and good trainers assisted each rider all
along the week.

Samsung Nations Cup SERIES UPDATE
The German squad stood firm to take the latest leg of the 2001 Samsung Nations
Cup series in Ikast, Denmark last 8 July 2001 where, last to go and with the
result hanging in the balance, Elmar Gundel sealed victory with a second clear
round.
There was a powerful battle for the following placings and Ireland,
gold-medal-winners at the previous weekend's European Championships in Arnhem,
got the better of a thrilling two-way tussle with America to take runner-up
spot.
After the 15th qualifying event of the Samsung Nations Cup series,
Italy still leads the standings with 51 points followed by Germany with 47
points and Belgium with 39 points.

WORLD CUP JUMPING FINAL ALLOCATED TO LEIPZIG
The Jumping Committee allocated the 2002 World Cup Jumping Final to Leipzig
(GER), from 1 to 5 May 2002 (refer to FEI Flash News 4 July 2001).
WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES NEWSLETTER
From July 2001 WEG Media Department will start producing a monthly electronic
Newsletter containing all press news and updated media information regarding
2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera (ESP), from 11 to 22
September.

FEI EMIRATES ENDURANCE WORLDWIDE RANKINGS - JUNE 2001
The first half of the year 2001 is over and the intermediate rankings as per
end of June are established.
In the first six months of 2001, nearly the same figures were reached as the
entire year 2000, in terms of number of international competitions, numbers of
placed riders and horses. For the number of Endurance rides organised, the
figures would even be higher if, in the first part of 2001, Europe had not seen
the cancellations of quite a few due to the Foot and Mouth disease.
More than 700 riders and 800 horses participating in 65 CEIs were included in
the intermediate rankings.

OLYMPIC APPOINTMENTS - ATHENS 2004
Mr Albino Garbari (ITA) has been officially appointed by ATHOC as Olympic
Course Designer Eventing.
Mr Michael Etherington-Smith (GBR) who was Course Designer at the 2000 Olympic
Games in Sydney has been appointed as Technical Delegate for Eventing.
Mr Leopoldo Palacios (VEN), who was the Course Designer at the 2000 Olympic
Games in Sydney has been appointed as Technical Delegate for Jumping.
EUROPEAN EVENTING OPEN FORUM IN LUHMUELEN (GER)
The European Eventing Forum, initially due to take place in Badminton, was
organised in conjunction with the CCI***/CIC** in Lumühlen (GER) on 6 July
2001.
After San Francisco and Kentucky (USA), this was the third Forum organised by
the Eventing Committee to gather opinions on the future of the discipline. The
Forum was chaired by Wayne Roycroft, Chairman of the Eventing Committee.
About 100 persons participated in the Forum, among whom riders, sponsors,
members of the German Equestrian Federation, media, officials and even
individuals from the public.
The Eventing working statement was thoroughly discussed. The important audience
attending, and the interesting debates that took place in all Forums organised
so far is very positive element in building up the future of the disicpline of
Eventing.
The transcript of the Forum will be available on the FEI website, section
reference, working docs in the coming week.
The next Eventing Forum will be organised on 15 July 2001 in Belo Horizonte
(BRA) in conjunction with the South-American Eventing Championship.
OPEN FORUM FOR DRIVING IN RIESENBECK (GER)
An Open Forum for Driving will be organised on 15 August 2001 at 11:00 in
Riesenbeck, in conjunction with the World Driving Pairs Championship. Jack
Pemberton, Chairman of the FEI Driving Committee, will chair the forum.
Among other things pertaining to corrections to the Driving Rules, the main
items on the agenda will be the Four-in-Hand Indoor World Cup, the conclusions
after the Dressage and Marathon new formula tested in Aachen last June, as well
as other proposals from the Think Tank working group. The development of the
discipline worldwide will also be an important item of discussion.
CSI-A SAN PATRIGNANO (ITA)
The CSI-A of San Patrignano will be held from 20 to 22 July 2001. Emile
Hendrix, Vice President of the International Jumping Riders Club was appointed
technical advisor. The Course designer will be once again Olaf Petersen (GER),
Chairman of the Jumping Committee and course designer for the 2004 Olympic
Games in Athens. San Patrignano will offer a total prize money of 450 millions
liras (more than 232,000 Euros) of which 150 millions liras are the purse of
the Grand Prix.
