BIG BEN MEMORIAL FUND UPDATE

horse
In this past year the Equine Research Centre (ERC) has made an excellent start on delivering colic education and prevention information as a result of the Big Ben Memorial Fund. New educational material, both completed and in the works, include: a traveling display, fact sheets, posters, and nutrition courses. These highlight ways to identify the early signs of colic, management techniques, and feeding practices to help avoid colic.

On the Research front, the ERC has been planning a busy year of colic- related research.  One of the projects that donations to the Big Ben Memorial Fund have helped support is examining the effects of dietary starch on gas production, and is a project in conjunction with the Ontario Ministry of Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).

Colic is an ongoing battle for our equine partners and we owe it to them to do everything in our power to control this painful, life-threatening ailment.  Thank you to everyone that has donated and helped with the fund.  Please spread the word and help us to help horses worldwide.

There is more information available about the Big Ben Memorial Fund by visiting our website at www.erc.on.ca.  Please note that a charitable tax receipt will be issued for all donations over $10.00.  Donations of $500.00 or more will have their name engraved on the Big Ben Memorial Plaque, which is proudly displayed at the ERC.
