Veteran Horse Society opens New Office in Surrey.
A
new office has just been opened in Surrey due to success of the
direct re-homing department at the Veteran Horse Society.
New
appointed Senior Field Officer Karen Goodliffe, founder member of
the Veteran Horse Society, will be managing the whole of the re-homing,
from these new offices in Oxted.
Karen
has been with the Society since the launch in 2001 and has been
a Field Officer since 2002, taking into her care neglected and unwanted
ponies. At one point she rescued and rehabilitated a retired riding
school pony, who was so weak she could hardly walk.
Karen
will be recruiting more voluntary Field Officers and spoke of her
new position, 'I am extremely honoured of being offered the position
of Senior Officer and have many new ideas planned for this department.
We urgently need Officers throughout the UK and if anyone would
like to be considered for this position, please send a sae to Head
Office initially who will send out all the relevant information
or contact me directly on 01883 715772. I hope to be able to assist
owners in placing their veterans around the country and for all
owners and carers who wish to offer a veteran a home, they too will
need to contact myself or Head Office for further information.
The
society helped to re-homed over 160 horses last year and has to
date rescued and rehabilitated over 50 horses. They now require
more emergency carers who would be able to assist the rehabilitation
of horses like Jim Bob, a 29 year old riding school pony, who was
still in full work despite being a quarter of his body weight.
Founder
of the organisation Julianne Aston spoke from the rehabilitation
centre. 'Karen is a real asset to a very successful team and I am
delighted she has accepted this senior position. She is a very caring
and professional person and is fully aware of the needs of the veteran
horse. Now this office has opened we are able to develop the welfare
department and are currently recruiting more staff to deal with
cruelty and neglect cases from around the UK'.
If
you wish to contact the Society about any of the above issues the
offices are open Monday - Friday, 10.00am-3pm, 01239 881300
or you can contact them via their award winning website
www.veteran-horse-society.co.uk.
