Show Jumping - Macken Confirmed As Olympic Trainer

FOLLOWING a meeting of the Show Jumping Association of Ireland (SJAI) International Selectors at the Great Southern Hotel, Dublin today (Tuesday) with Eddie Macken, the former Irish show jumping star was confirmed as Olympic Team Trainer.

<<I am delighted to have been included in the Olympic effort, >> said Macken afterwards. <<We now have a unique group of people together to help the team give their best at Athens, with Tommy Wade and Gerry Mullins acting as Chefs d'Equipe in the run-up to the Olympics, and John Ledingham as Equestrian Team Manager. I firmly believe that with the riders and horses available, we have an excellent chance of bringing home a medal in 2004.>>

Today's meeting in Dublin also saw the 17 riders on the Olympic Show Jumping Long List discuss various topics, including preparations for the Olympics and accommodation and stabling in Greece; the Samsung Super League for 2004; Anti-Doping Policy, and media relations.

After the meeting, EFI Secretary General Dan Butler said: <<This puts us on a firm footing. In keeping with the Irish Sports Council's strategy, our focus is now on Athens, and we expect great things from all our disciplines.>>

The group of officials at present involved with the Olympic show jumping team is as follows:
HIGH PERFORMANCE COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN AND EQUESTRIAN TEAM MANAGER: John Ledingham
