3 Year Ban for Causing Unnecessary Suffering to a Horse

Yesterday, Thursday 16th May, at Hyndburn Magistrates Courts in Accrington, Allan Clynch, from Rishton, Lancashire, was banned from keeping horses for 3
years for causing unnecessary suffering to a horse in his ownership, and fined £400 with £600 costs.

On 4th October last year Chris Williamson, ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses) Field Officer for N.W. England received an anonymous call
from a complainant who was concerned for the welfare of a horse on allotments in Rishton.

Comments Chris, "When I saw Duke, as he was called, I was appalled at his condition, he was so thin he could hardly stand, let alone walk, unaided. To let a horse get into that condition was wanton cruelty, for which there is no excuse.

"Clynch had not bothered to call a vet nor ask for assistance from welfare organisations who are always on hand to help in such cases."

Adds Sara Hill, RSPCA Inspector who subsequently attended the case, "There was no excuse for allowing this horse to get into this condition."

Duke was taken to ILPH Penny Farm, their recovery and rehabilitation centre at Peel, near Blackpool, but sadly, after a full veterinary examination and a series of tests, it was decided that the damage caused was too severe and it was too late to save him, so he was euthanased.
