The Original Horse Safari **********
Imagine
this: You are sitting astride a horse as he stands face to face
with a buffalo and curiously sniffs the buffalo's nose. Just half
an hour later you are standing, relaxed, close to two rhinos, photographing
them from the saddle as they seek shade from the midday sun. This
same horse will then carry you, unflinchingly, within meters of
hippo as they splash in the waters of a dam, along paths bordered
on both sides with abundance of game, and through thick bush, tracking
leopard. He will canter with you alongside a herd of zebra, wildebeest
or giraffe that appear suddenly at your side. He will stand stock
still before an elephant and wait patiently for your signal to retreat.
You
find these horses in South Africa, close to the Kruger National
Park. There, you can go on a Horse Safari, sleeping in luxurious
Safari tents, built in the colonial style on platforms facing a
big river. On this mobile safari you ride over a 40000 acre private
game reserve staying in different camps. Close encounters with elephant,
cheetah, rhino, wild dog, buffalo, leopard, accompanied by a professional
guide, are the thrill of this adventure. In small groups of four
experienced riders, Wait A Little African Big Five Horse Safaris
gives you the experience of a lifetime.
In
addition to horse safaris, there is a well-established research
and conservation project on the reserve. Elephant, rhino, lion,
buffalo, cheetah, wild dog and hyena have all been successfully
re-introduced in recent years and with careful monitoring and breeding
management they continue to thrive. For guests with a particular
interest in conservation, arrangements can be made to join the research
team for a day.
This
is a very special and totally unique horse safari experience in
South Africa. Please contact Gerti at safari@waitalittle.co.za
