BHS ISSUES WARNING ON TRAILERS

The British Horse Society is warning owners of horse boxes and trailers of the danger of rotten floors. The BHS has had reports of trailer floors failing while in use with appalling consequences.

The BHS issued the following advice:

  • Clean trailers after use, and allow the floor to dry out thoroughly before putting any more bedding in.
  • Check trailer floors regularly for rot and soft timbers.
  • Replace the floor when it begins to show signs of wear.
  • All trailers and horse boxes should have an annual service where they checked over by an expert.

Ifor Williams will supply a replacement aluminium floor for their older “Hunter” trailers at a cost of £170, and anyone who has an Ifor Williams trailer is recommended to take advantage of this offer.
