Jumping Result : IJM Timberframe Grand Prix League - Swail
Storms Through At Ballina
|
ANOTHER
demonstration of grace under pressure by Conor Swail earned him
the winner's rosette at the Super League show in Ballina today (Sunday).
With
Andrew Dunlop leading the field with <Cruz Forever>, and with
Swail's other horse collecting eight faults in the first round,
the Malahide-based rider was last to jump on <Drumagoland Flight>
and once again shaved fractions of a second off his predecessor's
time, much as he had done at Ennis yesterday (Saturday).
An
elated Swail, who now sees his score in the IJM TimberFrame Grand
Prix league break through the magic 100 barrier, said afterwards:
<It was a strong, technical track, and the ground was good, and
I am absolutely delighted to win here today. The horse was magnificent.>
Brian
Henry's course left only two first round clears (Swail and Dunlop),
with many horses falling foul of the combination at Fence 4, and
the IJM TimberFrame planks at Fence 6 also proving difficult for
most.
After
the first round, a decision was taken to allow the top 25 per cent
through to the jump-off, which produced five riders in total, facing
a course of eight fences.
Peter
Smith and <Zara's Pride> were unlucky to have Fence 2 down
in the first round, and also collected a time fault in the jump-off,
to take third place today, while Shane Breen and <Luandra>
took fourth with a four and a twelve. Sandra Duffy, who had put
so much work into the organising of today's event, saw her horse
<World Cruise> slot into fifth, despite rider Breen collecting
four faults in the first round, and a total of 20 in the second,
which included a run-out and 17 time faults.
Conor
Swail brought up the rear of the top six at Ballina, with <Conduct>,
who had eight faults in the first round, and did not qualify for
the jump-off.
Swail
adds 13 points to his IJM TimberFrame League total today, as he
has now jumped in the maximum number of Grand Prix, and must now
start shedding some of his lower, earlier scores. His total of 15
Super League points was therefore reduced by two points.
