To Buckskins, Buckskins and More Buckskins

It is summer time in Arizona and while for many people that conjurs up images of 100 degree heat in the desert of Phoenix, high in the hills at HorseBreakers Unlimited it means the excitement of preparing all the buckskin horses for the annual Buckskin Extravaganza and Production Sale.

This years sale was the 9th Annual and saw a crowd of over 1500 people from twenty states on hand to bid on a very special and unique set of horses.

Jon & Marywade Gilbert opended HorseBreakers Unlimited in Dewey, Arizona just outside of Prescott in 1987. In 1994 they held their first Buckskin Extravaganza. Since their breeding and sales business is centered around Buckskin and Dun quarter horses an annual sale to highlight these horses was a natural progression.

This years sale consisted of 93 horses, 53 geldings, 24 mares and a nice group of weanlings and yearlings.
Some of the sales highlights included a two year old dun stallion, MJG DUN IT DOC, by the three million dollar sire HOLLYWOOD DUN IT and out of a daughter of DRY DOC; DRYS GOLDEN SUN,an 11 year old buckskin daughter of DRY DOC; HONEY N CHOCOLATE,a 7 year old buckskin daughter of ZIPS CHOCOLATE CHIP; A NATURAL SHI,a 4 year old buckskin IBHA World Champion; DONT BADGER JESSIE, an 8 year old World Show Qualifer in Reining and an ROM earner.

Included in the Buckskin Extravaganza is the The Breeders Session. This session of the sale is open to offspring of the Gilberts stallions or foals out of one of their mares. This session included some exceptional weanlings by buckskin World Champion Producer SCOTTISH BART, two year olds undersaddle and an outstanding selection of mares in foal to SCOTTISH BART.

This years high selling horse was CDF POCO JETOFHONOR. The lovely 9 year old dun gelding sold to Smoke Tree Ranch of Palm Springs, California for $26,000.00.
Second high selling horse was the outstanding 4 year old buckskin gelding LEOS LIL MUSIC MAN. His new owner is Michael McGarry of Ramah, New Mexico.
The high selling mare was DRYS GOLDEN SUN, one of the youngest daughters of DRY DOC. This outstanding buckskin mare sold for $15,500 to Smoke Tree Ranch of Palm Springs, California.

The Top Five average was $17,740.00
