Hampton Classic Hosts Fourth Annual Seniors Day Presented by 50 Plus Senior News

Bridgehampton, NY — August 28, 2003 — The 2003 Hampton Classic Horse Show held its fourth annual Seniors Day, Presented by 50 Plus Senior News, on Thursday, August 28.

In addition to hosting world-class hunter-jumper horse show competition, Seniors Day at the Hampton Classic featured special activities for seniors including blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings, and health awareness programs designed and presented by the Classic's primary beneficiary, Southampton Hospital. Grandchildren accompanying their grandparents enjoyed pony rides while 50 Plus Senior News, the monthly newspaper for Long Island and New York seniors, conducted prize drawings throughout the day.

Seniors Day culminated with the Hampton Classic’s second annual “An Evening of Shopping.” Many seniors stayed late to join horse show exhibitors shopping in the 43 vendor booths in the Boutiques Garden. “An Evening of Shopping” was created to accommodate horse show exhibitors who often find themselves too busy during the horse show competition day to take advantage of the exquisite shopping found only at the Hampton Classic. If a break was needed, shoppers could dine in the on-site public restaurants and explore the World of the Horse area where miniature horses, llamas, alpacas, farm animals and the Classic's special horse acts are stabled.

The Hampton Classic Horse Show brings together the thrill and prestige of the hunter-jumper horse show circuit with thousands of spectators, extravagant social events, celebrities, shopping and fine dining in the Hamptons. The Hampton Classic is the most prestigious outdoor hunter-jumper horse show in the U.S.

The Hampton Classic continues on Friday with its third annual Fiesta Day, presented by Hoy. A community-centered salute to the growing Hispanic community on Long Island, Fiesta Day celebrates the culture and traditions of the Classic’s Latino participants with ethnic food, music, and dancing. A new mini-Mercado, including displays of arts and crafts by Latino and Hispanic artists and merchants, opens on Fiesta Day and will remain open until the end of the show.

The eighth annual Cablevision Kids Day, presented by Long Island Parents & Children magazine, on Saturday, August 30, is a family-friendly day featuring free admission for children under 12 as well as an array of activities sure to please kids of all ages. Along with face painting, balloon sculpting and a magician, the day will feature hands-on circus acts with the National Circus Project. There will be free pony rides, courtesy of Sally Hansen Cosmetics, and many interesting animal exhibitions designed to educate and entertain in the World of the Horse™ Exhibition Tent and Show Yard.

Kids Day competition is highlighted by the $25,000 Sally Hansen Grand Prix, the $15,000 W.G.H.R. Junior/Amateur Jumper Classic, as well as the $2,500 Children's Jumper Classic and the $2,500 Pony Hunter Classic for junior riders under the age of 18.

Grand Prix Sunday events include the $30,000 Young Jumper Championship Finals and the $25,000 Calvin Klein Show Jumping Derby for riders under the age of 21, both in the morning, followed by the grand finale—the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix. The Prudential Financial Grand Prix is a member event of the King Shavings/U.S. Grand Prix League (USGPL).

Admission to the Hampton Classic $5 per person or $15 per carload, with children under 6 admitted free. Reserved grandstand seating for Sunday, August 31 is $15 per person (in addition to $5/person or $15/carload admission) or $25 per person in the special Premium Seating center sections.
